Fall 2024
We allow no separation to grow up between the intellectual and spiritual life of children, but teach them that the Divine Spirit has constant access to their spirits, and is their Continual Helper in all the interests, duties and joys of life.

Class Offerings
Two different formats are happening at Scale How School for Fall 2024
VIRTUS
$150 per student

VIRTUS is for young men in Form III, ages 12-14. It is a once weekly, 2 hour session for the duration of 10 weeks. It will take place on Wednesdays, from September 4th to November 13th. No class on Oct. 16th for Fall Break.
The goal of VIRTUS is to express not only ideas, but norms, that tend to “make young men not only rational, but noble.” Class discussions will be steered to provoke students into asking critical questions.
VIRTUS for Fall 2024 includes the following works:
Grammar of Poetry
Fierce Wars and Faithful Loves: Book I of Edmund Spenser’s The Faerie Queene
A Man for All Seasons
Utopia
The Screwtape Letters (the first 10 essays)
The subjects studied in this VIRTUS session are:
Poetry
Biography
Citizenship
Christian Apologetics
Literature
Woodcarving
Various assignments will accompany both the reading and writing homework. A homework schedule will be provided to keep students on task. Class time will be peppered with Memory Work, Mapwork, Current Events and essays.
Every class period will begin with a prayer and a hymn.
Students will be called on to give narrations. Narration is the work of the student; it is not voluntary, but required, and a student’s narrations will affect the participation portion of his grade.
Students’ writing will be given careful and personal criticism, as well as constant encouragement to help improve their craft.
A midterm test will be given, and an essay will be the final project.
The majority of curriculum choices for VIRTUS for Fall 2024 are taken from Years 7 and 8 of Ambleside Online. It is not necessary for the student to be using Ambleside Online as his main curriculum in order to be a VIRTUS student, though Ambleside Online is highly recommended.
VIRTUS will be taught by Madam Gooch.
8 seats are available.
